A Short Biography
I am a writer, programmer, designer, and YouTuber based in Nottingham in the UK. I have also lived in Sheffield, Manchester, and Nice, France.
As a child, I wanted to be a science fiction and fantasy writer. I have written a number of unpublished novels and have received positive interest from an agent. I hope one day to have the financial freedom to pursue a writing career full time.
I have a strong interest in psychology, in particular its intersection with nutrition. I have a BA (Hons) in Social Sciences, and an MA in Writing (fiction and journalism). During my Masters degree at Nottingham Trent University, I became involved in online creative writing projects, and, having access to a computer for the first time, I discovered I had a knack for programming and web design.
In 1999 I wrote a fairy name generator to teach myself JavaScript. It was probably the second ever name generator on the internet. I later followed it up with the first vampire name generator. I would later turn these generators into a larger project, Name Generator Fun.
After working for a web design agency, and then for a large international tech company, I left to pursue self-employment so I could have more control over my work-life balance. As a co-founder of Aria Software Ltd, I worked in partnership with a local travel company in Sheffield, Alpha Rooms, and helped to build a first-of-its-kind live bookings system that allowed the company to expand rapidly to over 200 employees. I also ran my own online businesses, Beantree Organics and The Chocolate Bean Tree, selling organic food and chocolates.
Alpha eventually bought out Aria Software, and I took the opportunity to pursue my writing career, as well as manage a large-scale renovation of my cottage in the Peak District. I built a number of websites from which I earned a small passive income, including a very popular social network with over 50,000 members.
Meanwhile the name generators I had written years previously had gone crazily viral. I decided to concentrate on the project full time and in 2010 I began building Name Generator Fun.
I met my soon-to-be husband Saxon Bullock at a sci-fi convention in 2010. You can read that story from Saxon's perspective here.
In 2016 I decided to pursue my dream of having my own tiny home to travel England's canals and waterways, and I bought the shell of a 60 foot narrowboat to fit out. We are currently in the final stages of the build, and we have been documenting our progress on our YouTube channel Narrowboat Zero Gravity.
I am on Instagram as @aegireon.
